Zalău seeks sustainable renovation models for energy efficient building refurbishment

The Municipality of Zalău, located in the North-West of Romania at the feet of the Meses Mountains, has joined the SINFONIA and EU-GUGLE Replication Cluster, furthering the sustainable development of the city.

In 2012, the Local Council already decided to join the Covenant of Mayors initiative and committed to reduce the city’s CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020. To achieve its objectives, the city has designed a Sustainable Energy Action Plan in 2014, identifying three main priorities. These priorities include the refurbishment of buildings towards greater energy efficiency, the modernisation of the public transportation system as well as the development of alternatives for energy consumption through the creation of a solar power plant.

In the Replication Cluster, the Municipality of Zalău will have the opportunity to exchange best practices on energy efficient building refurbishment and will receive expert advice on topics that are of particular interest for the city such as thermal insulation and the renovation of historical buildings.
