Nancy, FR

The Metropole of Greater Nancy is located in the north-east of France and has a population of approximately 250,000 inhabitants (20 municipalities). In order to reduce its CO2 emissions and energy consumption, the Greater Nancy intends to develop innovative solutions for renewable energy generation and smart energy management.

Each year, the metropole is publishing a report on sustainable development to monitor the progress of the metropolitan area in this field and plan the implementation of further measures in different sectors such as energy consumption in buildings, renewable energy sources or mobility. As part of the initiatives launched by the metropole, a set of energy audits have been conducted in over 50 buildings and a strategy to raise awareness on energy efficiency related issues and encourage the citizens to take action in this area has been drafted. Additionally, the Greater Nancy has installed a district heating system working with biomass and is planning to extend the network to other parts of the metropolitan area in the upcoming years. The metropole is also a member of the Lorraine Smart Cities Living Lab that was created to exploit synergies in the region between different actors in view of developing innovative solutions to increase the citizens’ quality of life and reduce urban energy consumption.

In the framework of the Replication Campaign of the EU-GUGLE and SINFONIA projects, the Metropole of Greater Nancy intends to exchange knowledge and advice on district heating and smart grids.
