Spanish smart cities meet in Bilbao to share experiences on sustainable urban development. Last chance to join!

When: 19th May 2017, 09:00-14:00

Where: Euskalduna Conference Centre, Room B Terrace 4, Abandoibarra Av. 48011 Bilbao

What does it mean to become a “smart city”? And, more importantly, how to go about it? On the 19thof May, the smart cities of BilbaoVitoria, Valladolid, Mogel and San Sebastian will meet in Bilbao to share their experiences with national and European stakeholders, and discuss how to make our cities more energy efficient and better places to live in.

Each of these cities is a pioneer in the European Union’s Smart Cities and Communities initiative, which has supported the rise of several pilot projects across Europe. Yet each city is different, and each project has its own story to tell. Sharing these experiences is crucial to inspire other cities and help them develop energy solutions that meet their own needs.

During the event, representatives from the projects EU-GUGLE, ZENN, REPLICATE, REMOURBAN, SMARTEN CITY and R2CITIES will present the main challenges and lessons learnt from their smart city experience, and engage in a discussion on the three main challenges faced by cities:

  • How to move towards integrated urban planning?
  • How to ensure smart energy solutions can be replicated elsewhere?
  • How to engage citizens in the development and implementation of smart cities projects?
