Litomerice, CZ

The city of Litomerice is located in the Czech Republic and has a population of around 25,000 inhabitants. Although the municipality is surrounded by a nature reserve, it is located in a region that has long been struggling with structural and environmental problems arising from the prevalence of industry in the 19th and 20th centuries.

In order to promote sustainable development in the city, Litomerice has joined the WHO National network of Healthy Cities as well as the Covenant of Mayor initiative. Hence, the city intends to implement ambitious measures to cut its CO2emissions and reduce energy consumption. Among these measures are the energy-efficient refurbishment of buildings, including the integration of photovoltaic panels on the roofs and the façades of the buildings and the use of waste heat. Additionally, the city installed smart meters in public buildings in order to monitor and reduce energy consumption. Furthermore, the municipality is also planning to promote sustainable mobility thanks to the establishment of a new public charging stations network for electric cars and the development of incentives for electric car users.

In the framework of the Replication Cluster, Litomerice will have the opportunity to consolidate its refurbishment strategy and to share its solutions on the way towards smarter European cities.
